Sinister flute with brooding basslines is what to expect from ABAGA Records’ forthcoming free release.
The Mighty Cream‘s debut EP consists of a track with contrasting dark and light parts that lead to a pounding culmination of merciless bass sounds, and three remixes picked from a barrage of entries to their remix competition: JZR, with his spacious slower skank, Tisoki, with a hard hitting schizophrenic-like dancefloor-worthy version, and Skoshki, with a dark, growling variant, using chord sweeps that add a light at the end of the tunnel.
More music to come from this nascent duo, so keep your ears to the ground for this lot.

Jammin J – Free EP Out Today

The new free EP by Jammin J called “Something Special” [ABAGAFREE015] is out today!!! …and it IS something special:

FREE DOWNLOAD

This is Jammin J‘s debut EP on ABAGA Records. The title track starts the EP with a drum & bass stomper for the dancefloor, and the tracks that follow keep that upbeat vibe, utilizing jungle breaks, lush chords, sax and guitar, and leave your speakers truly dusted off by the massive sub-lines.
His releases on Extent Recordings, Nerve and 3 Roots Audio have already proven his great production abilities, and this EP furthers that reputation.

Free EP by Quektis out now

Bristol-based producer Quektis presents his debut EP with tasteful yet heavy basslines, dubstep grooves and a strong reggae influence, and for free download.
Remixes of Bob Marley’s “Sun Is Shining” and RadiKal Guru’s “Inilusion” fit in well with this hard-hitting, dancefloor-worthy EP. Big things to come from this producer.

Save BBC Introducing In Scotland

ABAGA Records are part of a campaign to help save the BBC Introducing In Scotland show on Radio 1. The BBC are restructuring and are cutting a weekly 2 hour show every Sunday at midnight that showcases Scottish talent. This would be a huge loss for local musicians and listeners, and make it harder for Scottish artists to reach international audiences. We urge you to get involved by signing the online petition and downloading the compilation album released by ABAGA Records on December 19th (all proceeds go to the Drake Music Scotland charity). The Pop Cop and Pelmet Nights are also involved in the campaign and have done a great job with the online petition and facebook page. Meetings with SNP MSP Joan McAlpine and Cabinet Secretary Fiona Hyslop in the Scottish Parliament have also shown how important this show is for Scottish music, and they will be a great help in letting the right people know about this campaign.

Interviews with Electrikal & Dubstepforum.gr

My interview with Edinburgh soundsystem, collective and blog Electrikal has just been put online. I was asked for a background on the label and myself, and there’s a mix in there too. Read it at www.electrikal.net/11/abaga-recordsmix-inside

I was also recently interviewed for Greek blog Dubstepforum.gr, with questions about my production and influences. Read it at www.dubstepforum.gr/?p=438

A big thank you to both websites. Check out what they do, there’s a lot of good stuff in there!
